सूर्य
Navagraha · Sacred Day: Sunday
Surya is the Sun — the king of the Navagraha (nine planetary deities) and the source of all life on earth. He is worshipped as the visible form of the Divine (pratyaksha devata) since he is directly observable. In Vedic astrology he represents the soul (atma), father, authority, leadership, vitality, and the ego-self. Surya is worshipped at sunrise with arghya (water offering) and at the Chhath festival in Bihar. The Sun temple at Konark, Odisha, is one of the most spectacular monuments to him. The Gayatri Mantra is dedicated to the Sun.
