मोरेश्वर
Ashta Vinayaka
Moreshwar of Morgaon is the first and most important of the eight Ashta Vinayaka shrines in Maharashtra. The pilgrimage traditionally starts and ends here. According to legend, Ganesha slew the demon Sindhu at this spot, seated on a peacock (mayura) — hence the name More-shwar (Lord of the Peacock). The temple is on the banks of the Karha river, about 65 km from Pune. The idol is self-manifested (swayambhu), facing east, seated with his consorts Riddhi and Siddhi. The temple is surrounded by eight minarets representing the eight directions.
Self-manifested swayambhu idol, left-trunk (Vamamukhi), seated in a cross-legged position, with three eyes including the third eye of wisdom. Accompanied by Riddhi and Siddhi (prosperity and accomplishment). A stone Nandi faces him, which is unusual because Nandi normally faces Shiva.
