महागणपति
Ashta Vinayaka
Mahaganapati of Ranjangaon is the eighth and final Ashta Vinayaka — the most powerful form. According to the Ganesha Purana, Shiva worshipped this form of Ganesha before his battle with the demon Tripurasura. The Mahaganapati form is said to have ten, twenty, or even a thousand arms representing his cosmic power. The temple at Ranjangaon, on the Pune-Ahmednagar road, was constructed by the 9th-10th century Rashtrakuta kings. The temple sanctum is constructed such that the sun's rays fall directly on the idol on the Sun's northern transit (Dakshinayana) in January.
Seated idol with the trunk turned to the left, ten arms holding various weapons and symbols. Red-lead (sindoor) paste applied over the entire body. Some traditions hold that the original idol (with twenty arms) is buried beneath the current one for protection. Accompanied by Riddhi and Siddhi.
