शनि
Navagraha · Sacred Day: Saturday
Shani is Saturn — the slow-moving planet of karma, justice, discipline, hard work, and life-lessons. Though feared for his harshness, Shani is absolutely just: he delivers exactly what we have earned through our actions, no more and no less. He is the son of Surya and Chhaya. His 7.5-year transit (Sadesati) is one of the most studied phenomena in Vedic astrology. Saturday is sacred to Shani. The famous Shani Shingnapur temple in Maharashtra and Tirunallar in Tamil Nadu are major shrines. Hanuman is the great remedy for Shani doshas — a story about their friendship.
Dark blue or black complexion, four arms holding a bow and arrow, a trident, and showing varada mudra. Riding a black crow or a buffalo. Wearing black or dark blue. Lame in one leg (from a beating by his half-brother Yama).
