पार्वती
Major Goddess · Sacred Day: Friday
Parvati is the goddess of love, fertility, devotion, marital harmony, and divine power (Shakti). She is the consort of Shiva and the mother of Ganesha and Kartikeya. Born as the daughter of Himavan (king of the mountains) and Mena, she performed severe tapas (austerities) to win Shiva as her husband after her previous incarnation Sati self-immolated at Daksha's sacrifice. Parvati has many forms — the gentle household mother, the fierce Durga who slays demons, the terrible Kali who destroys evil, and the supreme Adi Shakti who is the source of all existence. As the gentle Gauri or Uma, she represents the ideal wife and mother in Hindu tradition.
Fair golden complexion, wearing a red or green saree with traditional jewellery. Two arms (four when depicted as Shakti) — one in varada mudra (granting boons), the other holding a lotus or garland. Often shown seated with Shiva on Mount Kailash with Ganesha and Kartikeya. The tiger or lion is her vahana in her fierce forms.
