तारा
Dasha Mahavidya
Tara is the second Mahavidya — the 'star' or 'saviouress'. She is the goddess who carries her devotees across the ocean of samsara. In the tantric tradition she is closely associated with Kali but is slightly more compassionate, granting both worldly welfare and liberation. She is especially worshipped at Tarapith in West Bengal, where the great saint Bamakhepa had his visions. Tara is one of the few Hindu deities who is also a major figure in Tibetan Buddhism (as Green Tara and White Tara), a living example of the shared Indic spiritual heritage.
Dark blue complexion (Neela Tara), three eyes, short and rounded figure, standing on a white corpse. Four arms holding a sword, a severed head, a lotus, and a skull bowl. Wears a tiger skin. Long protruding tongue. Dwarfish form suggesting condensed power.
