कुबेर
Major God
Kubera is the god of wealth and the treasurer of the gods, as well as the guardian of the northern direction (Dikpala). He is the king of the Yakshas, semi-divine beings who guard hidden treasures of the earth. Kubera rules from his celestial city Alaka on Mount Kailash, close to Shiva's abode. Though born a demon (as the half-brother of Ravana), Kubera performed severe austerities and was blessed by Brahma with lordship over wealth. He is especially invoked on Diwali — the day of Lakshmi Puja — for material prosperity, and his yantra and mantra are popular for attracting wealth.
Plump body with a protruding belly (symbolising abundance), three legs (according to some traditions), eight teeth, one eye, and a yellow complexion. He holds a mace, a pomegranate, and a pot of gold coins. His vahana is the mongoose (Nakula), which spits out jewels. Accompanied by the goddess Riddhi (prosperity).
