कृष्ण
Major God · Sacred Day: Wednesday
Krishna is the eighth avatar of Vishnu and is worshipped as the Supreme Personality of Godhead by the Vaishnava tradition. Born in Mathura, raised in Vrindavan among the cowherds, and later king of Dwarka, Krishna's life is narrated in the Bhagavata Purana and the Mahabharata. As the charioteer of Arjuna at Kurukshetra, he delivered the Bhagavad Gita — the essential teaching of dharma and devotion. Krishna embodies the divine in every mood: the mischievous child who steals butter, the young cowherd who plays the flute for Radha and the gopis, the wise king, and the cosmic supreme. His consort is Radha (and later Rukmini and Satyabhama).
Dark-blue or black complexion, yellow silk peetambar, peacock feather in the crown, flute (Murali) held to his lips, cowherd staff (gopala danda), tulsi garland. Often depicted dancing with Radha and the gopis on the banks of the Yamuna. As Govardhan-dhari, he lifts Mount Govardhan on his little finger to shelter the villagers of Vraj.
