लक्ष्मी
Major Goddess · Sacred Day: Friday
Lakshmi is the goddess of wealth, fortune, prosperity, beauty, and abundance — both material and spiritual. She is the consort of Vishnu and accompanies him in all his avatars: as Sita with Rama, as Rukmini with Krishna, as Padma with Narayana. Born from the churning of the cosmic ocean (Samudra Manthan), she rose seated on a lotus and chose Vishnu as her eternal husband. Lakshmi is worshipped on Diwali as the goddess who visits every home that is clean, illuminated, and welcoming. She is also invoked as Ashtalakshmi — the eight forms representing different aspects of prosperity. Friday is sacred to her.
Golden complexion, four arms holding lotuses, showering gold coins (varada mudra), and granting blessings (abhaya mudra). Seated or standing on a fully bloomed pink lotus. Two elephants flank her and shower water from their trunks — the iconic Gaja Lakshmi form. Her vahana is the owl (Ulooka), symbolising her ability to see in the darkness of ignorance.
