गायत्री
Major Goddess
Gayatri is the personification of the Gayatri Mantra — the most sacred Vedic mantra, said to have been revealed to Sage Vishwamitra. She is considered the mother of the Vedas (Veda Mata) and the supreme mantra-devi. Chanting the Gayatri Mantra is said to bestow wisdom, remove ignorance, and illuminate the intellect. Gayatri is often considered a form of Saraswati or a manifestation of the combined energies of Lakshmi, Parvati, and Saraswati. Her worship is central to Sandhya Vandana — the daily ritual recitation of the Gayatri Mantra at dawn, noon, and dusk.
Five faces (Panchamukhi) representing the five elements or the four Vedas plus the Vedangas, ten arms holding various symbols including the Vedas, rosary, water pot, trident, conch, discus, lotus, and boon-giving mudra. Seated on a red lotus. Golden complexion. Sometimes shown with a single face and two arms in the household worship form.
